Patrick Bitonder Birungi, PhD
Dr. Patrick Bitonder Birungi is the Executive Director of Uganda Development Corporation
(UDC) at the time of writing this book. Previously, he was the Director of Development
Planning and Head of Strategic Planning at the National Planning Authority (NPA); served as
the Country Economist at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Uganda
Office; and for 15 years, was a Lecturer of Economics at Makerere University.
He is a distinguished Consultant at both local and international levels, with Government
Agencies and International institutions including the World Bank, UN Agencies, International
Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP).
Patrick served on Board of Directors of Soroti Fruits Limited and Moroto Ateker Cement
factory. He is a member of the Boards of Kalangala Infrastructure Services, Abubaker
Technical Services, and Makerere University Business School Economic Forum. He is the
Chairperson of Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province Association (MEPA) that brings together five
Catholic Dioceses. He serves on the Planning and Investment Committee of Fort Portal
Diocese.
Patrick holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pretoria and has published
extensively in reputable referred journals. He is a member of professional bodies like the
African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the Resource and Accounting Network of
Eastern and Southern Africa (RANESA).
