Michiel Van Oosterhout

Michiel van Oosterhout, born and raised in Eersel, is a writer/filmmaker and has lived in Uganda since 2001. He released the documentary Bwana Jogoo: the ballad of Jessy Gitta in 2019, which attempts to unravel the mystery behind the murder of a well-known Ugandan musician in 1974 by the security men of President Idi Amin. With his alternative history book "The Soul of Uganda through song", Van Oosterhout delves deeper into the history of the country based on 200 songs (and translated lyrics) released on singles between 1962 and 1979.
